Bathroom Addition
Project type
Addition
Date
2024-2025
Location
Vermont
This first-floor bathroom addition was designed for a retired couple wishing to age gracefully in their beautifully crafted 100-year-old home. Originally built as a Sears-Roebuck kit house, the residence showcases exquisite custom maple woodwork by artisans from the Estey Organ Company, active from 1852 to 1953.
With the home’s rich history in mind, our goal was to create an addition that felt like it had always been part of the original design—down to the handcrafted decorative corbels. The new space includes a welcoming vestibule with built-in drawers and shelving for additional storage, as well as a floating desk positioned beneath a window.
The bathroom itself was thoughtfully designed for accessibility, featuring a custom wheelchair-accessible vanity and a spacious, walk-in tiled shower. Every detail reflects a balance between timeless craftsmanship and modern functionality, ensuring the home remains both beautiful and livable for years to come.
